Community and corporate involvement, as well as foundation grants and other forms of assistance, including in-kind professional services, materials, and labor, are all vital to take Kim’s Garden from conception to fruition.
As support allows, we have completed the following tasks. Further activities are to be announced.
- Tree-pruning to provide more light for shrubs and herbaceous species (PRUNING DONE - MAY 2011)
- Installation of a historic iron fence to protect future plantings (FENCE COMPONENTS FABRICATED - OCTOBER 2012; FENCE INSTALLED - DECEMBER 2012)
- Re-connection to city water line, to ensure permanent water supply for future plantings (NEW COPPER PIPE, SHUT-OFF VALVE, WATER METER & LOCKABLE FAUCETS INSTALLED - MAY-JUNE 2012)
- Installation of a mosaic centerpiece (see Garden Design) (MOSAIC CONCRETE BASE POURED - AUGUST 2012; MOSAIC INSTALLED - AUGUST 2013)
- Installation of new trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants (see Garden Design) (WILLOW OAK PLANTED - FEBRUARY 2012; WEST GARDEN PLANTED - DECEMBER 2012 & MAY 2013; EAST GARDEN PLANTED - NOVEMBER 2013)
- Repair of brick paving (BRICK WALKWAY RESTORED BY EAGLE SCOUT SERVICE PROJECT - SEPTEMBER 2012; COURTYARD BRICK REPLACED WITH PERMEABLE ECO-PAVERS - DECEMBER 2012)
- Repair of hardscaping and cement curbs (CURB REPAIRED - JULY-AUGUST 2011)
- Installation of historic reproduction street lights (ELECTRIC LINES & LIGHT POLES INSTALLED - APRIL-MAY 2014)
- Installation of additional, appropriate design litter cans (2 NEW CANS IN PLACE - SEPTEMBER 2014)
Our Fundraising Plan
Kim’s Garden is a community project that will enhance the beauty of Capitol Hill, provide an educational component for children, and benefit the environment. An undertaking of this magnitude requires a comprehensive budget and fundraising plan, which we currently are developing.
We are pleased to be affiliated with District of Columbia Green Spaces Alliance, Inc., a DC-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, so that all donations are tax deductible. Garden Labor
We hold clean-up days when volunteer labor is greatly appreciated. Tasks may include planting, weeding, and site clean-up. We will post work day opportunities on this website.
