WELCOME TO KIM’S GARDEN - A Project of Friends of Kim Brenegar

Kim Brenegar, a Capitol Hill resident and owner of the Washington, D.C. landscaping business “The Ornamental Garden,” died in a car accident in 2009 at the age of 49. The Friends of Kim Brenegar formed in 2010 to create a living legacy in honor of Kim’s love of community and the environment. We chose the renovation of a small public park just steps from Kim’s home, where for many years she had volunteered her talents and plant materials to maintain the garden.

New Water Pipes & Faucets: A Permanent Water Supply for Kim’s Garden!

Today, Steve Miller of Steve Miller Plumbing turned on a newly-installed water faucet (technically termed a “hydrant”) that will now ensure a permanent water supply for Kim’s Garden and the future plantings. Thanks to the hard work of Fernando Silva and FMS Construction, the decades-old, non-functioning water line was excavated in May, and then several resolute DC Water crews dug up Independence Avenue and replaced the galvanized pipe with new copper line, plus installed a new tap and a new shut-off valve. We’re grateful for everyone’s efforts to bring water BACK to Kim’s Garden!

  1. A permanent water supply for plants in the garden is definitely important to ensure their growth. Having a faucet in the garden would make it easier for Kim to water the plants. Just make sure to use pipes that are very resistant from freezing, like PEX pipes.

  2. Having a continuous flow of water is important if you have a garden. This is one of the most essential elements so that you can grow beautiful and healthy plants in your garden. New water pipes and faucets will really help Kim make her garden look even more beautiful!

  3. Having a permanent faucet in the garden is a smart decision. I’m also planning to have a permanent supply of water in my garden so that I don’t need to go back and forth to the house just to get water for my plants. I hope I can do this next month.
